In consonance with the objectives of DSRF, JNIAS is a secular and non-profit organisation. JNIAS would be an Institute of excellence and undertake advanced studies and research and offer Ph.D. programmes in certain areas in sciences, engineering & technology and humanities and social sciences. India to become a developed nation, advanced technologies play an important role. In the context of globalisation and ‘technology denial’ regimes, it is imperative that India becomes self-reliant in achieving technological superiority through indigenous R&D effort. Sustainable development also need appropriate technologies. The advancements in high-tech areas should be applied for sustainable rural development in a country like India through ‘Technology Transfer’. Information technology, Biotechnology, New Materials and Nano Science & Technology are dominating the twenty first Century. The country should not only be in the forefront in these technologies but also achieve ‘core competence’ in certain areas depending on our strengths.

In the above context, India needs dedicated Institutes of advanced studies and research. To join this effort Dr. D. Swaminadhan Research Foundation (DSRF) has established the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Advanced Studies (JNIAS) at Hyderabad.

OBJECTIVES OF JNIAS

JNIAS has the broad objective of evolving itself into an Institute of excellence in sciences, engineering and technology, humanities and social sciences for contributing to the progress of humanity and the development of India.
